I’m a web developer/IOT specialist by trade, and a retro enthusiast in my free time. As far as retro is concerned, I’m mostly interested in using modern methods to play on original hardware, but not with original cartridges/disks. With the ballooning of prices for original games, my personal preference is to either modify my consoles or use an EverDrive type of solution. I’m also interested in emulating on retro consoles, whether that means final burn alpha on the original XBox, or more recently ScummVM on Dreamcast. This way I can conveniently experience classic games on my CRT that I wouldn’t otherwise be able to due to price or just storage space. I’m also an advocate for composite video through a CRT.

Extract the GOOD version of Blade Runner from the PC Enhanced Edition

The “Enhanced Edition” of the awesome Blade Runner adventure game from Westwood Studios was just released on steam as well as on consoles. Unfortunately, it’s a mess. As with so many of the recent re-issues of beloved classics, it appears to be little more than a cynical cash grab. The graphics and all-important mood of […]

Mario 64 Made to Render 8000 Polygons on Real Hardware

If you own a Nintendo 64 flash cartridge and don’t know of Kaze Emanuar already, then you’re going to love this. Kaze is likely the most prolific N64 modder out there with over 100 mods, and his creations are as fun as they are impressive. One of the best things about Kaze’s mods is that […]

EmuVR – Free Immersive and Nostalgic Emulation with Online Multiplayer!

One of my best discoveries in retro gaming this year has to be EmuVR, and it’s just come out with a new update. You can think of EmuVR as an immersive front end for RetroArch, which provides a cozy and nostalgic 3D bedroom for you to play retro games in. While the emphasis is definitely […]

The NES’s Hidden Power is Being Unlocked

A new tech demo was just released by Something Nerdy Studios for the NES Everdrive line of flashcarts. This demo, titled House Of Truth, showcases some amazing features the NES hasn’t been capable of up to this point. The release marks a first step for what Something Nerdy hopes may someday be a development ecosystem […]

Setup Guide for ScummVM on Dreamcast

I recently learned that ScummVM, the emulator for classic PC adventure games like The Secret of Monkey Island, King’s Quest, and Beneath a Steel Sky, has a port for the Sega Dreamcast. This was exciting news to me because I’d been looking for a way to play these games on my CRT comfortably from the […]
