Tito from Macho Nacho Productions just posted a video showing how to install RetroNAS directly onto a UGreen NAS box. This is extremely handy, as their cheaper 2-bay devices might be the perfect device for retro-enthusiasts: Get two matching drives and run them in RAID 1 for *redundancy and you’ll have a pretty robust unit for your retro collection! Also, I believe you can also install UnRAID on these UGreen boxes, then install RetroNAS as a VM for a feature-packed NAS box…although you might want a more powerful one with more drive bays for that (I’ll try to make a video on that at some point). Anyway, check out the video above and more info below the links:

I need to reiterate a point Tito made very clear in his video: This video was focused on installing RetroNAS for use with a PlayStation 2, however that’s just a small percentage of what it can do! You can use it as a hub to connect retro PC’s, connect your MiSTer and even use it’s ability to install homebrew on your 3DS! I think Tito’s approach of installing it for one console, then slowly adding more features over time is a great way for beginners to get started, as it’s far less intimidating.
Of course, you can also install RetroNAS on a Raspberry Pi, or basically any other device, so if you’re interested in that, please check out my original video below; While the project has evolved, the main installation is exactly the same, so that video is still valid. And if you’d like to hear more from Dan Mons, the original creator, we did a whole podcast talking about RetroNAS as well – Just scroll down for the video, or search any podcast app for “RetroRGB RetroNAS”:
*Dear Fellow IT Nerds: Every time I mention RAID or NAS devices, you loose your minds in the comments with explosions of mansplaining how “RAID is not a replacement for a backup”. No shit. BUT, even if you have your RetroNAS backed up to your main PC (or something), isn’t it nicer to just swap out a failed drive without having to re-copy and re-configure everything? So thank you for your concern, but calm TF down – We’re not all ‘idiot end users’.
