Wobbling Pixels has just completed a side-by-side review of the current-gen 4K retro gaming scalers: Retrotink 4K CE, Morph 4K, OSSC Pro. He explains and showcases their features, strengths and limitations using text, images and videos. The “summary & rating” category offers a short overview containing the key points of the 17 categories the review is split up into. If you’ve been curious about how these scalers compare to one another, this is the info you’ve been waiting for:

As someone who’s spent a good percentage of RetroRGB’s work on comparison tests, I can say with confidence that this was an epic amount of effort!!! Heck, even the main “Summary” tab has so much info in it…but that’s just the summary!!! I can’t possibly recommend this spreadsheet enough and if I ever find time to do my own video comparison, I don’t think I could ever make it as detailed as this.
As for the results, it’s about what I expected, including the great performance of the OSSC Pro. I think that scaler/downscaler doesn’t get as much attention as it deserves and I hope to someday highlight it a bit more.
And while the 4K Pro wasn’t part of the comparison, I was able to highlight the launch day differences between the CE and Pro in the video below. The Pro’s auto-phase is something everyone would benefit from, even if they don’t realize it’s happening and the 480i deinterlacing, Enhanced S-Video and better comb filter are also notably better…but it’s up to you if it’s worth the extra 1/3 cost. For me personally, the answer is a big yes, both for those “mainstream” reasons, as well as things like IVTC, which I often use for watching video in the proper cadence. Check out the video below for more Pro vs CE examples:
