Sony CRT & Projection Factory Videos

The Computer History Archives Project has just uploaded two promotional, “factory tour” videos that showed a Sony manufacturing plant in the US.  The first video (above) showed the process of making Sony’s CRT TV’s, as well as described the challenges of making a flat-tube TV:  The reason for the curve was to provide more strength to contain the “vacuum” on the inside against the pressures of the outside.

The second video (below) shower how their rear-projection CRT TV’s were manufactured, as well as some of the testing process.

Both of these are absolutely must-watch videos for fans of CRT’s!  I’d also strongly recommend checking out the Technology Connections video on Trinitrons from a few years ago, which I included at the bottom of this post, along with another excellent video from that channel about how analog TV works.
