Original Color NES Shells + Purple Transparent

Retro Game Restore has just opened pre-orders on two new shells for the original front-loading Nintendo Entertainment System – The first is a direct color replacement for the originals, which is something many people have been asking for since RGR started making these shells.  The next is a transparent purple version that looks amazing.  More info and links to a livestream demoing these below the links:

Before we continue with the NES stuff, I just wanted to politely remind everyone that unless RGR gets more orders placed for the Genesis 2 shells, the run of production will have to be cancelled.  Everyone will get their pre-order money refunded if that happens…but those shells look awesome and I really hope they’re made available.  If you have the budget and were on the fence about buying (or stocking them in your store), maybe consider taking the plunge?  Onto the NES stuff though…

I’m really excited that RGR is making replacement shells in original colors.  They’ll most likely be made with ABS plastic, which is the same as the originals;  I showed off the build quality of the ABS prototype in the livestream below, however the production units won’t be white like the prototype, they’ll be two-tone to exactly match the original NES.  I really hope these sell well, as that might motivate RGR to make original color matches for all the console shells they offer.  In fact, that’s been the biggest complaint I’ve heard about the RGR shells (far more than the price trolling) – People love the look and feel of their original consoles, but many have beat-up cases.  Especially shells like the NES which almost always have cracked corners, or all the yellowed SNES/SFC and Famicom shells out there!  Let’s all show our support with our wallets:  If you want this, buy one right away so we can get these made!

In the livestream, we also showed the smoke transparent shell that’s currently up for pre-order, which looked excellent.  And RGR surprised us by sending a purple prototype as well…and that looked really good.  Like with the purple SNES shell, I thought it looked good in pictures, but it looked much better in person.  If you’d like more info, please check out the livestream I did with Russ Lyman, who also shared his expertise on painting console shells, as well as some more suggestions on what you can do to make these even better:
