MiSTer FPGA News – New Computer Cores, New Arcade Cores & More

ABC 80 Computer Core

JasonA has ported a core for the Luxor ABC80 Personal Computer to the MiSTer FPGA. It’s not officially released, but JasonA is asking people to test the core to find any issues.

The ABC80 was a Swedish developed home computer from the late 1970s and early 1980s.

RetroRemake GUI

Taki Udon posted video captures of the graphical user interface his company is creating. The GUI looks to be customizable as different posts show different formats. It is also working over a CRT.

MiSTer MultiSystem 2

The MiSTer MultiSystem2 is available for preorder now. It is an all-in-one MiSTer FPGA setup, that does not require a separate FPGA board as it has it’s own. There are two versions. One has multiple ports for connecting to analogue displays and the other is HDMI only.

Naughty Boy (Arcade)

Developer darfpga has officially released the Naughty Boy arcade core. This is a Jaleco arcade game released in 1982 where the goal is to reach the top of each level, all while avoiding multiple enemies.

A couple of alpha cores for the Taito F2 hardware were released by developer wickerwaka on discord. This Alpha builds can now run the following games:

  • Liquid Kids
  • Super Space Invaders
  • Gun Frontier
  • Growl/Runark
  • Solitary
  • Cameltry
  • Drift Out

Jotego has added Sky Kid Deluxe to the JTTHUNDR core. This is a side scrolling shooter from 1985 by Namco. The goal is to collect a bomb and use that bomb on a designated target. The JTTHUNDR core is currently in beta so it’s only available to Patreon subscribers.

Jotego Interview

Pixel Cherry Ninja conducted a interview with Jotego asking several questions regarding core development.

Some topics covered are

Mr Fusion

UPDATE: Mr Fusion has removed UpdateAll from it’s image.

The best way of setting up a MiSTer FPGA for the first time is using the Mr Fusion SD Card image. The latest version of Mr Fusion now includes the UpdateAll script. This is a huge quality of life update, as you are not required to manually install UpdateAll anymore.

In addition to including the UpdateAll script, the packaged MiSTer binary release in Mr Fusion is now the April 2, 2025 release.

Game Boy Advance Borders

Robert Peip, who is creating a more accurate Game Boy Advance core, recently added border support to the latest build of this new core. This core hasn’t been released yet, but you can get test builds from the MiSTer FPGA Discord.

Dinierto Designs has also provided a GitHub repository that offers borders to use on this new GBA core. These borders can now be enabled on the latest version of the UpdateAll script.

Amstrad GX4000 / 6128 Plus Computer Core

JasonA has been modifying the Amstrad 6128 core to also support the Amstrad GX4000 home console and the Amstrad 6128 Plus home computer.

The Amstrad 6128 Plus was a home computer that improved on the original CPC and provided a cartridge slot.

The Amstrad GX4000 was a home console released in Europe back in 1990. It was basically a repackaged 6128 Plus with modifications for it to work better as a console.

If you want to follow the progress of the core, head on over to the MiSTer FPGA forum thread.
