Retro Fighters have just launched a Kickstarter for the PlayStation Defender Pro: A controller designed to work with PS 1-3 consoles, as well as many others via Bluetooth and USB. It comes with the controller in your choice of color (black, grey, blue and red), a receiver dongle for the PS1/PS2 and a 2.4Ghz wireless USB receiver dongle (flip the switch in back for BT mode). The price is about $65 and it’s due to ship to customers by the end of the year. Check out the kickstarter for all the details and I have some thoughts below:

This controller is really aiming to be THE 3rd party PlayStation controller, with pressure sensitive buttons, hall effect analog sticks and 1000Hz polling rate. Of course, we won’t know for sure how it performs until its in the hands of reviewers, but based on Retro Fighters last few controllers, my guess is it’ll have very low latency and perform well. Also, while I always warn people that backing a Kickstarter isn’t a guarantee you’ll get your item, Retro Fighters launches most of their products this way and it’s as safe a bet as you can get. I personally pre-ordered one and will livestream testing this winter when it’s released.
