8Bitmods has just listed stock of the original MemCard Pro for the Sony PlayStation. While it’s not as fully-featured as the MemCard Pro 2, it’s less than half the price at about $28, making it worth considering. This latest hardware revision also supports PS2 saves (not just PS1) in a limited capacity, as well as using it as a Bluetooth controller receiver on the PS1 and allows you to launch games on most PS2’s. If you own a PS1 or PS2, this card (or the Pro 2) are definitely worth considering. Six different color choices are available and there’s more info below the links:

I’m happy with my choice to stick with the MemCard Pro 2, however I can see quite a few use cases for this one. The first is (of course) cost, but what if you just want two physical memory cards, so two players can have their own dedicated save files? One of each would be a really cost-effective way to accomplish that, especially if your primary use is PS1. And that’s another reason – If you primarily play PS1 games, there might not be a need for the PS2-specific features. Speaking of which…
If you’d like a detailed list of the differences between the MemCard Pro 1 & 2, 8Bitmods has a chart listed on their page. I pasted a screenshot here, mostly to keep as an archive; I wish I had done this when the MemCard Pro 2 first launched, so I could reference it to show how many features have been back-ported to the original! As long as you have the second hardware revision, there’s been a ton of completely free and really awesome updates. Click the chart for a full-sized view:
