FBX’s NES ‘Perfect Audio’ Soundtrack Rips

FirebrandX has been uploading NES soundtracks captured with the goal of having the best representation of the NES’ analog output.  In order to achieve this goal, FBX used shielded cables and approved mods like the Ace expansion audio balance restoration method, ground isolation on the motherboard and Voultar’s QSB AV Output kit. Noise cancellation was applied using a 10-second clip of the output at idle (no sound other than background hum) recorded prior to running each track. Basically, you’re probably not going to find a better example of these soundtracks.  He’s adding more all the time, with 12 currently available as 24-bit, 96kHz FLAC mono files.  more info below the links:

These rips are far more than just a fun way to listen to these soundtracks – They’re an accurate representation of the best possible way these games could have sounded on original NES hardware.  While both hardware and software emulation is excellent, you’re still using the digital to analog audio conversion build into your device, which is absolutely going to sound at least slightly different than original hardware.  In some cases, you might argue that’s “better”, but rips like this are a great way to archive how these could have sounded.

In fact, the developers Infidelity just used FBX’s recordings in their recent NES to SNES conversion of Mega Man 6, via MSU-1 audio.  See, while Membler’s NES sound emulator does an excellent job, it’s not 100% accurate and you’re still using the SNES’ chips.  Having an MSU-1 rip of the original, provides you the exact sound you’d have heard on the best example of NES hardware…but on your SNES (using an FXPak Pro)!

…and once again, all of these soundtracks are available for free, but please consider supporting on Patreon if you’d like to see more!
